Expat Inspiration: Your Stories

AWARD GIVEAWAY ALERT!  I see so many expat stories that inspire me…

Moving your life abroad is scary, challenging, brave and admirable – and there are expats out there who do it with flair and make this world a better place at the same time! We should be acknowledging these strong people much more often.

Hover on Image (or press & hold) to Pin!

THAT IS WHY I’m starting the #EXPATINSPIRATION challenge.
Each month, I will be reading through your nominations and choosing 1 incredible individual or family living abroad whose story NEEDS to be shared! They will then win a coffee on me for being genuinely awesome (I’ll send them a $20 Starbucks gift card), be able to proudly display the award on their page (if they’re a blogger) and their story will be featured here on our site.

If you know someone living abroad who inspires you every day, NOMINATE THEM by completing the following quick steps:
1. Follow me on Instagram
2. @Tag your nomination in the comments of an #ExpatInspiration post and explain why they should win!

Winners will be selected based on merit and announced monthly on our Instagram & Facebook pages. Open worldwide (Starbucks gift card delivery may vary depending on recipient’s country!) This giveaway is in no way affiliated with Starbucks or Instagram.

Sixtina – @SixMilesAway

Sixtina is a self-declared nomad, explorer, traveller & volunteer. She has lost count of the homes and friends she has around the globe (from her origin of Germany, to Mexico, USA, The Netherlands and now her new home in Ireland).
Her spirit and passion for travel are contagious in every smiling photo that she posts and she focuses on spreading the idea of having real local experiences in the countries that you visit (here here!)
She says that the best part about living abroad is that it makes you step outside your comfort zone and grow as a person; as well as allows you to meet so many people from around the world who become friends for life.
Not only does Sixtina run an incredibly resourceful blog, she also has participated in tons of volunteering events since moving to Ireland, including serving the homeless, cleaning beaches, wrapping Christmas boxes for children in need and fundraising for those with Down Syndrome.
Thanks for all that you do Sixtina – You are a wonderful world citizen.

Laura – @MapsandSmiles

Doesn’t her Insta handle just say it all? She is an absolutely FEARLESS expat who, originally from Spain, chose to study at a university in England (where I was lucky enough to meet her).
The entire time throughout her studies, she was an addictive source of positivity and fun. Everybody loved her. Now that I have moved abroad too, I look back and admire how effortlessly she slipped into a different culture and embraced new friendships so successfully.
Not only that, she has since travelled around the world, working long-term in China and completing the Everest Base Camp Trek!
She regularly supports important movements and most recently, organised her first charity event that raised approx. $6,000 CAD for 2 NGOs that focus on providing free medical treatment, therapy and sociocultural activities to disabled people in China… Laura, you’re an angel.

Charlotte – @Bermuda.Baby.and.Me

Charlotte is an expat & mummy blogger. Originally from London (UK), she recently moved with her beautiful family to tropical Bermuda because of her husband’s work opportunity. Cue envy-inducing Instagram photos filled with paradise coast-lines and the adorably handsome face of little Teddie!!
Her insightful blog & fun YouTube channel cover important topics of motherhood, travel and what it’s really like to raise a family on a tropical island away from family and friends…
Her pages are where I head when I’m feeling (serious) wanderlust and for my fix of a classic English accent like my own! Thanks for sharing your story Charlotte, you definitely inspire me when faced with the thought of raising a family abroad.

In 2015, Little Miss Expat bravely moved from her home in London to Dubai! As a young teenager dealing with such a big move, a new school, settling into a completely new life and culture, she decided to start supporting other teen expats who are going through the same thing with her caring and informative blog posts.
Not only that, her posts are filled with fitness, health and hair(!) goals and she is always a ray of sunshine on our newsfeed.
Always eager to help others, she has also recently launched an online story-sharing expat community that you HAVE to check out on her blog linked below. Congrats Little Miss, keep doing your wonderful work!
